Alteryx Announces Moneyball’s Paul DePodesta as Keynote for Inspire 2013
Alteryx is pleased to welcome Paul DePodesta, well known for being the inspiration for the best-selling book Moneyball : The Art of Winning an Unfair Game.
As the Vice President of Player Development and Scouting for the New York Mets, DePodesta has made a career out of strategic analytics—evaluating, measuring, and assigning value to athletic talent.

He’s perhaps best known for his time as Assistant General Manager of the Oakland Athletics from 1999 to 2003—a tenure during which the A’s tied for the best winning percentage in baseball. Their remarkable success-on-a-shoestring is chronicled in the best-selling book Moneyball: The Art of Winning an Unfair Game.
At the time of DePodesta’s hire, Oakland was one of the worst teams in the league. The stagnant team sought a creative approach, one that A’s GM Billy Beane and DePodesta supplied, using data and strategic analytics to identify and cultivate undervalued rising stars.
In DePodesta’s premiere season as Assistant G.M., the A’s enjoyed their first winning season in seven years and began a run of four consecutive playoff appearances, including three American League West Division Titles. His analytic approach has since been mimicked by various teams around the league.
DePodesta graduated Cum Laude from Harvard College with a degree in economics. He has worked in the Canadian Football League and the American Hockey League, been an advance scout for the Cleveland Indians, and served as Executive Vice President of the San Diego Padres and General Manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. His work has been recognized by various publications, including Fortune, who named him one of the Top 10 innovators under 40.
Join us to hear DePodesta discuss the innovative strategies he used to create a winning team, as well as the application of these strategies in the corporate world.
