Alteryx Empowers Business Analysts to Access, Analyze and Enrich Hadoop Data with New Read and Write Capabilities

New Release of Alteryx Analytics to Meet User Demand for Hadoop Access with Direct Read From and Write to HDFS

San Diego, Calif. – Inspire 2014 – June 18, 2014 – Alteryx, the leader in data blending and advanced analytics, today announced during its Inspire 2014 keynote that analysts will soon be able to read data directly from the Hadoop Distributed File System (HDFS), blend it with other sources, perform advanced analytics, and then write enriched data back to HDFS with Alteryx Analytics. With this capability, Alteryx is advancing the Hadoop data platform as an everyday tool for analysts, making it possible to realize deeper business insights across every part of an organization.

“Now that Hadoop is a Tier 1 data source, analysts need to be able to utilize data stored in there to drive incrementally more value for their organizations. Our vision at Alteryx is to become the most complete option for analysts using Hadoop data platforms,” said George Mathew, President and COO of Alteryx. “To meet the growing demand of our customers to enrich and use Hadoop data for analytics, we will deliver direct read and write capabilities to HDFS in the next release of Alteryx Analytics.”

Support for HDFS Read/Write to be Available in Next Release of Alteryx Analytics

Alteryx provides access to and blending of data from traditional and emerging sources of insight. Alteryx Analytics currently provides access to Hadoop data via Hive and will now add direct read and write capabilities to HDFS for all major Hadoop distributions, including Cloudera, Hortonworks and Pivotal. The upcoming Alteryx Analytics release empowers analysts to use this new capability to take advantage of Hadoop data sources for faster data blending and analysis.

This release will add direct access to the Cloudera implementation of HDFS, extending support for Cloudera CDH that now includes the existing Alteryx Hive connector and support for Cloudera Impala, which enables faster access to structured data for analytics. These options enable analysts in line-of-business groups to make the most of the Cloudera platform. “As enterprise adoption for Hadoop has taken hold more steadily to realize meaningful big data insights, we’ve seen an increasing demand for data analysts to do data blending and advanced analytics across multiple data sources and across new data streams,” said Amr Awadallah, chief technology officer at Cloudera. “Cloudera’s Platform for Big Data, the enterprise data hub, in concert with Alteryx is being used increasingly for these advanced analytics and across Cloudera Enterprise. Through Impala and now with direct access to HDFS, data analysts can deliver business critical insights much more quickly.”

Making big data more valuable to organizations by providing access to data in Hadoop for line-of-business analysts is a major focus for Alteryx. These new capabilities extend that value while also delivering the next step in the Alteryx vision to become analysts’ most complete option for Hadoop data platforms – a vision that ranges from data access, analytics, and eventually, native processing of Alteryx analytics all within the same intuitive workflow.
