Marketo Connections

Marketois a marketing automation platform that enables marketers to manage personalized multi-channel programs and campaigns to prospects and customers. For more information, see https://developers.marketo.com/.

Tip

This connection is in early preview. It is read-only and available only in SaaS product editions. For more information on early previews, see Early Preview Connection Types.

Limitations and Requirements

Note

During normal selection or import of an entire table, you may encounter an error indicating a problem with a specific column. Since some tables require filtering based on a particular column, data from them can only be ingested using custom SQL statements. In this case, the problematic column can be used as a filter in the WHERE clause of a custom SQL statement to ingest the table.

  • For more information, please consult the CData driver documentation for the specific table.

  • For more information on using custom SQL, see Create Dataset with SQL.

Note

For filtering date columns, this connection type supports a set of literal functions on dates. You can use these to reduce the volume of data extracted from the database using a custom SQL query. For more information, see the pg_dateliteralfunctions.htm page in the driver documentation for this connection type.

  • You may not be able to import few tables due to permissions limitation in the Marketo account.

  • Use custom SQL with LIMIT clause for few tables that contains large amount of data.

  • OAuth 2.0 authentication is required.

    • You have to create an OAuth 2.0 client in Marketo and register the created OAuth 2.0 client in Alteryx Analytics Cloud (AAC). For more information, see OAuth 2.0 for Marketo.

    • You cannot create OAuth 2.0 connections via API.

Note

This connection type supports interacting with REST-based views only. Other types of views, such as SOAP views, are not supported, although they may be accessible. This is a known issue. As a workaround, you can filter your SQL query on the primary key column of the table from which you are extracting data, which limits retrieval to just the table of interest.

Note

When using custom SQL to read data from some Marketo tables and views, the only supported operator is the equals sign (=). For more information, please see the data model documentation for individual tables or views: https://cdn.cdata.com/help/DKG/jdbc/pg_datamodel.htm.

Create Connection

via Cloud Portal

When you create the connection, please review the following properties and specify them accordingly:

Connection Property

Description

REST Endpoint

Enter the Marketo REST API endpoint from which to retrieve data. This endpoint is specific to your Marketo account.

Tip

In the Marketo console, navigate to Admin > Web Services to copy the value for REST API End point and paste it here.

Connect String Options

The following default value sets the connection timeout in seconds:

timeout=0;

For more information on Connect String Options, see https://cdn.cdata.com/help/DKG/jdbc/Connection.htm.

OAuth 2.0 client

Note

As Marketo is a tenant-based system, you must create and register a Marketo OAuth 2.0 client in AAC. For more information, see OAuth 2.0 for Marketo.

The client is displayed.

Note

After you have specified the connection to use OAuth 2.0, click Authenticate to validate the connection with the target datastore . If you have modified the connection, click Re-authenticate to validate the new connection definition. You must re-authenticate if you receive an expired code message. This step is required. For more information, see Enable OAuth 2.0 Authentication.

Default Column Data Type Inference

Leave this value as Enabled.

For more information, see the driver documentation https://cdn.cdata.com/help/DKG/jdbc/default.htm.

Data Type Conversions

For more information, see the driver documentation https://cdn.cdata.com/help/DKG/jdbc/default.htm.
