A data mesh is a new approach to designing data architectures. It takes a decentralized approach to data storage and management, having individual business domains retain ownership over their datasets rather than flowing all of an organization’s data into a centrally owned data lake. Data is accessed by treating each domain’s data lakes or data warehouses as individual nodes in the data architecture. Under the data mesh model, individual domains develop a “product management” mindset, treating their domain data as a product that must be easily discoverable and usable, with internal data teams as their customers.

How Alteryx Helps

Decentralized data architectures bring many advantages, but they don’t eliminate the need for aggregating, preparing, and pipelining data. Alteryx makes it simple to aggregate data from multiple sources, such as those found across a data mesh, prepare that data, and pipeline it for analytics or machine learning.
