Frequently asked questions

Editions & licensing

How is Alteryx One packaging different from previous licensing models?

Alteryx One shifts from purchasing individual products and infrastructure components to a unified platform approach. Instead of buying separate Designer seats and Server cores, customers choose an edition, assign user roles, and size automation capacity based on their needs. This provides greater flexibility to align users, automation, and deployment options to your organization’s needs.

How will my existing licenses map to Alteryx One?

Customers with Designer only licenses will generally transition to Professional Edition, while customers using Designer and Server will typically align to Enterprise Edition. Professional and Enterprise editions include additional capabilities beyond legacy licensing, bringing analytics, automation, collaboration, and AI-powered functionality together in a unified platform experience.

How do user types and editions work together?

Editions define the capabilities available to your organization, while user types determine how individuals access those capabilities. Full Creators have access to advanced analytics capabilities, Basic Creators use core analytics tools, and Viewers can run and consume assets without modifying them. Professional and Enterprise editions support a mix of Basic and Full Creator roles, while Viewer roles are only included in Enterprise edition.

What Alteryx One modules are included in each edition?

Alteryx One bundles modules including Designer, Live Query, App Builder, Agent Studio, Server, Orchestrator, and Auto Insights. Module availability varies by edition, Starter includes core analytics capabilities, while Professional and Enterprise include additional modules and functionality for advanced analytics, automation, orchestration, AI, and enterprise-scale deployment.

Which edition is right for my team?

Starter is designed for smaller teams focused on core analytics workflows. Professional adds advanced analytics, automation, and connectivity capabilities. Enterprise is intended for larger organizations that require governance, analytic apps, viewer access, and enterprise-scale automation.

Capacity pricing

How does capacity-based pricing help prevent unexpected costs?

Automation Credit capacity is shared across your organization, allowing teams to scale usage without purchasing additional user licenses or cores for every workload. Usage is tracked against your purchased capacity so you can plan and manage consumption over time. This enables you to optimize the deployment topology to meet your individual needs.

What happens if I reach my capacity limit?

If your usage exceeds your contracted amount, we’ll continue supporting your business and work with you to align your subscription with your actual needs as adoption grows.

Automation usage

What counts as an automation run?

Automation runs include workflows, plans, and apps that are executed automatically through schedules, APIs, or viewer interactions. This includes scheduled workflows, API-triggered workflows, scheduled plans, and apps run by viewers. Failed runs, validation runs, and design-time runs don’t count.

What doesn't count as an automation run?

Failed runs, validation runs, and design-time runs do not count as automation runs. For example, manually clicking Run in Designer, validation checks during publishing, or workflows that end in an error do not consume automation run capacity.

How are automation runs tracked?

Automation runs are measured and tracked across the platform. Customers on Server 25.1 and later can view aggregated usage in the Admin Console to monitor automation consumption and understand how capacity is being used.
