Alteryx support of Adventure Team Challenge race a big win for all

Technology innovator and title sponsor’s 3 teams place in top 4 of life-changing wilderness event

Irvine, CA – July 11, 2011 – Business intelligence software leader, Alteryx, Inc., sponsored and fielded three teams in World T.E.A.M. Sports’ Adventure Team Challenge June 25th through the 27th along the Colorado River north of Eagle, Colo. The three teams, made up of Alteryx executives, employees, and customers, finished the grueling white water rafting, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, and zip line race course to place second, third and fourth out of a field of thirteen teams. Last year’s first place winners took top prize again, headed up by Adventure Team Challenge director/volunteer, Erik Weihenmayer, known more widely as the first blind mountain climber to summit Everest, and a contestant on this summer’s ABC reality TV show, Expedition Impossible.

Disabled and non-disabled athletes from 12 states and Canada competed in this year’s event. Referred to as a life-changing experience by all, each team must compete and stay together as a unit, and each team must be made up of at least two disabled athletes, one of which is a wheelchair user.

Alteryx entered a single team in last year’s event after being challenged to do so at the company’s annual Inspire customer conference by keynote speaker, Erik Weihenmayer. An Alteryx employee on last year’s team, Nino Pozgaj, along with his 15-year-old daughter, Clarissa, inspired an unbelievable third place finish against a very competitive field. Before last year’s race, Clarissa had never been “off pavement,” confined from birth to a wheelchair with a congenital disorder known as Arthrogryposis that greatly limits her strength or control of every muscle. “Team Clarissa” finished an impressive fourth in this year’s event.

At this year’s conference, Clarissa’s story highlighted by Weihenmayer’s insights into building trust for a winning “rope team,” regardless of the summit being tackled, so profoundly touched Alteryx executives, employees, and the company’s customer community that Alteryx signed up to be the title sponsor of the 2011 Adventure Team Challenge. In addition, last year’s seven teams jumped to thirteen this year, from all accounts thanks to the remarkable courage and triumph Clarissa shared with the event’s broader audience. Alteryx donated in excess of twenty-five thousand dollars to support its own three teams, as well as supporting Denver, Colo., customer, Atlas Advertising, in fielding its own team. Dana Pickup, an Alteryx user employed at Walmart, participated on the Alteryx “Team Terrorific,” which came in second overall.

“I was excited to participate on a team in this Adventure Team Challenge, because I saw a rare kind of community forming around Alteryx, this event, and all of these athletes, disabled and able-bodied alike,” offered Dana Pickup. “It’s not every day that ordinary people like me and my teammates, some of whom happen to have disabilities, have a chance to physically, mentally, and emotionally push ourselves as individuals and as a team to achieve extraordinary accomplishments, like we did repeatedly on this race. It’s a unique victory shared by everyone who helped make it happen.”
